Kravchenko Alexander Diomidovich (1881-1923) - commander of the Siberian partisan army during the Civil War. On September 14, 1919, the partisans under his command liberated Minusinsk and in January 1920 they joined the forces of the Red Army. From 1920 to 1921 Kravchenko fought against Wrangel.

Alexander Kravchenko was born in the Voronezh province in a peasant family. In 1905 he graduated from the Saratov Agricultural College. During the revolution of 1905-1907 for revolutionary propaganda among peasants he was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, soon replaced army service. Thanks to his being literate, Kravchenko was enrolled in sub-officers’ school, but after graduation instead of being raised from the ranks, he was dimessed from the army for his open membership in the fighting group of the Ukrainian Social-Democratic Labor Party. In 1907, in order to avoid further persecution, Kravchenko left for Siberia.

In 1914, with the outbreak of the World War I, he was enlisted in the tsarist army.

During the February Revolution of 1917, he was elected deputy of the Achinsk Soviet from the military faction. He was also appointed chief of the Achinsk city department of the people's militia and at the same time he supervised the work of the food site at the Achinsk railway station.

At the beginning of the Civil War, Alexander Kravchenko was drafted into the army of Admiral Kolchak, but evaded service. Instead, in 1918 he organized a partisan detachment to fight against the Whites in the territory of the Yenisei province, established contact with the Stepno-Badzhey Bolshevik underground and in December 1918 was elected commander of the combined partisan detachments operating at the Tasei Front - the northern battlefield in Siberia. Another group of partisan detachments in the south – at the Stepno-Badzheyevsky Front was commanded by Pyotr Shchetinkin. After Shchetinkin’s detachments were wrapped up in April 1919 by the White forces led by general Rozanov, partisans managed to break through and unite into a single army headed by Kravchenko. Pyotr Shchetinkin became the chief of staff of the new partisan unit.

In June 1919, under the pressure of the superior Kolchak's forces, the partisan army abandoned the Stepno-Badzhey Republic and set off on a distant raid. The number of partisans in the unit at that time was about 3,570. And on September 14, 1919, the Reds entered Minusinsk. By this time, the number of partisans in the army increased from the initial 3,570 fighters to 18,000. Then the partisans crossed the Sayan mountain range and came to Tuva. Here they liberated Belozarsk (current Kyzyl) and turned back. Later they joined the Red Army forces in Achinsk and Krasnoyarsk.

In 1920-1921, Kravchenko, along with the 1st Siberian Division fought against Wrangel in the Crimea and the North Caucasus. After the end of the Civil War, he was the Chairman of the commission for the restoration of the destroyed economy of the Kuban-Black Sea region, was a specially commissioned officer for the formation of volunteer units in the East Siberian Military District, worked as an inspector for the collectivization under the People's Commissariat of the RSFSR. He was sent to the Stavropol province, where, since 1922, he was the head of the provincial land department in Pyatigorsk.

On November 21, 1923 Kravchenko perished at the hands of anti-Bolshevik peasants, rebelling against the policy of decossackization.
